This topic is constantly involved in controversy. There are several studies
and with discordant results.
In a general way, is recommended children with asthma don't have pets (Cats,
Dogs, Hamsters) in their home, specially if this children have allergy too.

Of course, asthma isn´t an infectious disease. Causes involving asthma are
related to genetic factors, atopy and enviroment factors. But asthma is not
caused by bacteries, viruses an other infectious agents.
It is possible this agents trigger an asthma attack, but only in asthmatic
people. That means if you haven´t got asthma an you have an infection, that
infection never causes you asthma.
It is important pay atention between "cause" and "trigger"
